Galeria Penteado “Territories”

curatorial project by Hebert Gouvea

Works that discuss the “place” of contemporary art, expanding into territories that alternate between the natural and built environments.

While working at Galeria Penteado in Campinas, Brazil, I curated a few group exhibitions. Amongst them, “Territories” organized in parallel with the Virada Cultural Paulista in Campinas – a state-wide festival involving several private and public institutions featuring visual arts, theatre, and musical concerts.

In this context, we have selected works that discuss the “place” of contemporary art, expanding into territories that alternate between the natural and built environments.

It also explored possible reverberations of an event that begins in the capital Sao Paulo and spreads throughout the state, proposing in space a dialogue between the works of artists from both the interior and the capital.
