Möbius 2012 – 2022
Revisiting the last 10 years of “Möbius”, an artistic project that explores, using long pieces of fabric as a visual element to materialise the tension between the artist and the landscape (body and the environment), various ways the coauthorship with nature was possible.
How it started
It began in 2012 when I was selected to participate in an artist residency in the Peruvian Amazon called Centro Selva.
Before arriving in the city where the residency would take place, I travelled through other Peruvian regions, such as the Andes and the desert coast of Paracas.
I found and collected materials and experimented with them and various landscapes. At this moment, I perceive those places’ visual power and meaning and how it would be possible to use natural elements without causing any negative environmental impact.
The iconography of this project establishes relationships with previous artistic projects and my academic research on creative processes between fashion design and contemporary sculpture projects.
Site-specific experience
The project is not limited to public parks or nature reserves but seeks intersecting urban and natural zones.
The choice of locations for the performances reflects the search for natural elements with a visual impact and potential messages related to the space and the community inhabiting it. This journey leads to artistic and ecological reflections, seeking a harmonic collaboration between humans and the environment.
“Being inside the work” implies a bodily, spatial and existential self-awareness. The project is not about a forced imposition on the environment but rather a dance of elements, a collaboration in which each part contributing to the performances becomes an integral element, just like the wind, trees or stones present in the landscape.
2022 starts a new cycle
One of the last stages of the project takes place in South Africa, a country that offers a climatic and environmental connection closer to my origin, Brazil.
This moment marks the beginning of the conclusion of ten years of work, allowing a deep reflection on the project and new developments.
“Möbius 2012-2022” is an invitation to dive into the transformations, interactions and connections art can create with the natural environment and the urban universe, challenging the boundaries between art, design and contemporary culture.
This intimate and inspiring journey invites us to rethink our relationship with the world around us, highlighting the importance of collaboration and awareness in our search for harmony and belonging.
